About Salamah

Salamah was founded by Sadia Sultan, a mental health therapist. Through her work with Shifa Women Services, her role in a race equality charity and through research, Sadia gained a deep understanding of the mental health needs of both men and women from within the ethnic minority communities, particularly those seeking support that aligns with their traditional values and cultural backgrounds.

Transforming mental healthcare for ethnic minority communities.

While the NHS offers valuable services, the IAPT and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) therapies are limited and often described as Eurocentric.

Sadia observed that many ethnic minority clients struggled to find lasting benefit from these approaches, or felt disinclined to use them as they felt these methods did not align with their world view.

For some, past experiences with mainstream services led to a reluctance to try therapy again, feeling that their cultural perspectives weren’t fully understood or integrated.

Having been in the client’s chair, Sadia understood that people often need more than structured techniques; they needed genuine connection. They wanted to be heard, respected, and understood from their unique cultural and personal perspectives.

With a background in race equality advocacy, Sadia has also seen first hand the disparities within various health services and the gaps in culturally responsive care for ethnic minority communities.

Salamah was borne out of that need, with the vision to establish a space where clients could walk in and feel understood on a fundamental level.

Salamah carefully selects counsellors who embody The Salamah Code of Conduct—practitioners with a proven commitment to being:
